Earthing: What is it and How Can it Improve Your Health?

Do you remember, as a child, how free you felt walking barefoot in the grass and sand? How your skin touched the dirt, and you didn’t have a care in the world?  That feeling connected you to the Earth’s natural energy, referred to as Earthing.

While Earthing appears to be spiritual, the concept behind it is really more scientific. When our bare feet or skin touches the Earth, we release free, charged electrons into the ground. The touch neutralizes the excess of free radicals damaging our bodies and causing inflammation and disease. Free radicals in the body result in organ damage, aging, and even cancer.  As we walked barefoot on Earth, we felt so alive because we were relieving our bodies from free radicals that some have attributed to mood disorders and chronic pain.

Improving Your Health through Grounding


The Earth acts as a conductor, and its energy allows our body’s ability to cope and repair itself.

Earthing or grounding can be done by simply walking barefoot on the Earth. Let your bare feet and skin touch the ground, dirt, sand, or grass. You can even do it indoors with an Earthing mat,  a sheet made of conductive fibers that promote the transfer of energy.

Grounding promotes vitality and well-being. It reduces blood clots, decreases inflammation, prevents headaches, relieves chronic stress and fatigue, and helps you sleep better.  It normalizes the body’s biological rhythms.

Today, too many of us surround ourselves with electronics, like smartphones, tablets, laptops, and Bluetooth gadgets. To make it worse, we wear synthetic materials in our clothing and shoes, and we walk on carpets and other engineered surfaces. Technological devices and synthetics act as insulators that trap the positively charged energy in our bodies.

Historically, man has walked the Earth, slept on the ground, and cultivated the lands with his/her bare hands. Our modern lifestyles have disconnected us with the Earth; many of our physical ailments can be managed by simply reconnecting, one step at a time, with the Earth and its elements.
